What to Expect

Welcome to Hillcrest Church – we’re glad you’re here!

Whether you’ve attended church your whole life or have never stepped into a church, Hillcrest is a great place to be. We invite you to come look around and join us for a service. You’ll find a community of people who are passionate about growing in their faith, sharing Jesus’ love, and having fun while doing it!

We know it can be a little intimidating to walk into a church for the first time – whether you’ve been to others or this is the first time anywhere. In order to ease your mind and to help you know just what you’ll experience, we thought we’d give you a little overview of what you can expect if you come to check out a service.

Choose a Service

Each service is exactly the same. Our current service begins at 10:30, and we’re excited to announce we’re adding a 2nd service at 9a, October 1st. Wear whatever makes you comfortable- you’ll find all kinds at Hillcrest. Great kids programs for children (infant-5th grade) are available at all services, with elementary kids beginning with their parents in the service. Our Junior High and High School attend service with their parents and share in our unique participatory study of the Bible.

Arrive and Get Parked

Plan to arrive 5-10 minutes early to find parking and get to the auditorium. The church is located a couple of blocks south of the Hospital and just across the street from Hillcrest Park. Look out for signs on the side of the road to direct you. Parking is available in the front of the church, around the side, or along the street by the park.

Find a Place for Yourself and Your Kids

You’ll be greeted at the front door by our Welcome Team, who will show you and where to go and make sure your kids are checked-in and have a chance to meet their teacher. If they want to stay with you in the service- that’s great as well. Make sure you grab a program (or as we call it- your “Tool-Kit” for the morning), a cup of coffee if you want, and find a seat. Children will be dismissed after the first couple of songs in the service and will walk to the back of the sanctuary to meet their teacher.

Enjoy the Service

Our services are designed to excite, inspire and challenge you! It will last about an hour and 15 minutes and includes a couple of opening songs, the Pastor’s message which is uniquely interactive, and a time of response however you choose through contemplation, prayer, communion and our offering. Our goal is to uniquely engage with both your mind and heart and that you leave challenged in your understanding of who God is and His call on your life.

We're a Little Different Here

If you’ve ever been to church, you know that Pastors have a bulk of the time to share with you the Scriptures (hopefully) each week. We do things a little different. Our messages are more like a conversation- Pastor Ryan teaches, but that includes questions and insights that the whole congregation interacts with as he goes. Imagine a sermon in a classroom- complete with a whiteboard- and you’ll start to get the idea. Trust us- you’ll like it. In fact, we think it will be hard for you to go back to anything else. Don’t worry though, we’ll never make you feel awkward. During our services, you’ll never be singled out as a visitor. You aren’t expected to participate in the conversation though you certainly can. Following the Sermon, we have opportunities for you to respond in a way that is uniquely you-you can sit quietly, join in singing, ask for prayer, take communion, give a gift, or fill out a Connect Card so we know you were with us and can give you some more information. If you stop by the Welcome Center on your way out we have additional information about us as well as a small gift there for you too (Hint: Coffee and Chocolate together)! When you are comfortable, you can take the next step by joining a Grow Group, serving in a ministry team or attending our Membership Class to find out why we do what we do.
